Part time Child and Adolscent Psychotherapist – Prospex – Islington

OPPORTUNITY

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Hours: This is a part time role to meet existing ‘face to face’ therapy caseload, initially 2/3 hours for one evening a week after 5pm. Likely to grow.

Location: Based in our Youth Centre, The Underground – 2 minutes from Caledonian Road Tube Station (Piccadilly Line).

Remuneration: Circa £70 a hour (plus travel expenses).

Prospex is a youth charity, established in 2001 to increase and improve the opportunities and experiences of at-risk young people in Islington. Prospex’s work is both diverse and impactful, running outreach sessions to engage with teenagers at-risk of gang violence, teaching young people how to make nutritious meals, providing empowerment sessions for girls and young women and much more. Prospex is responding to the immediate needs of young people during Covid: providing opportunities for online socialising, skills development and individual support through a dedicated mental health service as a response to increased feeling of despair, isolation, self-harming and suicidal thoughts amongst young people; operating a home cooked takeaway food service, providing young people with access to free healthy food without stigma.

Our Mental Health Service (Prospex Listens and Cares) provides access as needed for young people to on-line therapy as well as developmental support for parents and care givers. This new position will provide face to face support to young people whose difficulties are particularly complex and are not suitable for on line support.

The Role: We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist who has experience in working with adolescents with severe, highly complex and persistent difficulties. Due to the severity of the difficulties/needs presented, we are looking for a person who is able to hold sessions in a face2face setting – not online work – in order to provide the necessary containment for the clients and their therapeutic process.

Position requirements: The post holder will provide specialist psychotherapeutic treatment for the adolescents and will be able to take into account relevant theoretic and clinical approaches to have an understanding of highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes which have shaped the adolescent. Must be a suitably qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, eligible for membership of the BACP, UKCP and/or ACP. We would be pleased to consider applications from newly qualified Child Psychotherapists, or those qualifying by Summer 2021.

Reporting: The position reports directly to our Clinical Psychotherapeutic Supervisor who manages the service overall and will also provide clinical supervision to the successful candidate.

We would be pleased to consider applications from newly qualified Child Psychotherapists, or those qualifying by Summer 2021.

APPLICATIONS please directly to Michael Hickes, Chair of Trustees at Prospex.
