An Introduction

Join our Summer School at Terapia to explore the field of child psychotherapy for the first time…

Would you like to explore the field of child psychotherapy and counselling, but are unsure where to start? Our Introduction to Therapeutic Work with Children takes place this August with limited places available for those interested in the area.

The five-day experiential workshop is designed to teach you to help children and adolescents deal with their feelings, whilst also learning about therapeutic play and its use in facilitating the communication between a child’s inner worlds.

Intended to deliver an insight into the complexities of psychotherapeutic work with children, you will learn basic therapeutic counselling skills, including an introduction to neuroscience and the importance of systemic thinking in working with children.

Taking place between Wednesday 25th – Sunday 29th August 2021, the course welcomes all with an interest in the field. It is particularly useful to practitioners who work with children, such as social workers, teachers, SENCOs, nursery teachers, classroom assistances, school nurses and foster carers, but is open to all.

Commenting on the course, Clinical Director and CEO Bozena Merrick said: “We are extremely proud to welcome back our Introduction to Therapeutic Work With Children Summer School for 2021. The pandemic has had such an impact on children and young people that it is more important than ever that those in a child-facing role really understand how to facilitate communication with young people.

“It is important to us that this course offers theoretical training in parallel with the experiential training, allowing participants to experience a gradual introduction to practical work with children. This mix is an important aspect of all our courses here at Terapia.”

The Course Tutors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience both as teaching professionals and practitioners in the world of child and adolescent psychotherapy and counselling. Handpicked and integral in the creation of the course content, the five-day workshop also offers a fantastic insight into the challenges faced by children and young people following the past year of lockdowns and effects of the pandemic. With limited spaces remaining, please contact us at [email protected] should you have any further questions regarding the course. Further details, including a day-by-day description of the course content and how to apply for the course, can be found here.
