About NEWPIN

Newpin centres are unique and highly effective for parents with at least one child under five, who are finding parenting impossibly difficult and who want to transform their lives permanently. They can refer themselves, or be referred by a professional. Newpin is free to attend. The first Newpin in Waltham Forest is due to begin in 2023 in Leytonstone for two hours a week on Friday afternoons.

We seek a:

Parents worker

Tasks:

To visit parents at home who refer themselves or are referred, and encourage them to come to Newpin, preferably with a volunteer as support.

To host the living room – a space where parents can meet informally, have tea, and support each other non-judgmentally and confidentially.

To help run the therapeutic support group, once parents have settled into the centre and feel ready.

To help organise visits by a range of practitioners and parents to discuss aspects of parenting.

To work in close co-operation with the playroom worker and development worker.

Playroom worker: appointed.

Tasks:

To run a welcoming space and play/art/story etc activities in the playroom with children once they are happy to be in a room (fairly nearby) apart from their parents.

To work with parents one-to-one or in small groups to foster healthy attachment and the parents’ ability to play with their children.

To work in close co-operation with the parents worker and development worker.

Term and conditions

£20 an hour on a self-employed basis. Enhanced DBS check needed. We can get it done if necessary.

Start date: Once we have parents for the sessions.

Times: Two hours a week for one year initially. on Friday afternoons12.30 – 2.30pm. The two rooms are available from 12.30pm.

Support: Regular support/supervision will be available in Leytonstone.

Volunteers: It is hoped to recruit more volunteers for tasks such as tea making, washing toys, publicity etc.  We have three at present.

Funding

£9,500 has been granted by Awards for All (part of the Lottery) for one year. It is hoped that extra funding at some point will enable us to open for more hours a week and for the centre to continue in future.

Volunteers: We need male and female volunteers for a very wide variety of tasks. Please ask for a list.
