All therapeutic services offered by Terapia are part of our educational course delivery and are provided by our trainees.
About the Role
This role is to support Terapia in providing child and adolescent psychotherapy and counselling services in schools and other organisations, by assisting Terapia trainees with their placements.
The job involves liaising with schools, other organisations and students, supporting students to ensure a balance between the service provision and Terapia’s psychotherapy students’ training needs.
Terapia Trainees undertake clinical work in a range of placements including primary and secondary schools, nurseries, Care Leavers organisations, Children’s Homes, and Psychiatric settings. We allocate all Terapia Trainees to clinical placements and work closely with partner organisations to ensure a high-quality, professional and well managed therapeutic service is provided to all schools and organisations we work with.
Trainees also have placements with Terapia Approved Partner Organisations (TAPOs) which offer therapy services. At these organisations Terapia trainees can undertake long-term clinical work. We also have also established relationships with other statutory and emergency services to support them with mental health issues.
This position reports to the Head of Therapeutic Services and Development. You will also work closely with the School Services Manager and the Academic Support Coordinator.
Main Responsibilities:
- To deliver presentations to Trainees regarding placements, sharing information about placements in a clear and professional manner.
- To source and secure out of area school placements for trainees who are unable to take up a placement at a school contracted with Terapia School Service or a Terapia Approved Partner Organisation (TAPO).
- Liaising with schools (including head teachers and senior staff), external agencies, statutory and non-statutory organisations in a professional manner.
- Responding to trainees’ queries relating to placements – including “employment based” placements and TAPOs.
- Providing Trainees with reference letters.
- Supporting and guiding trainees to help ease anxieties around securing and starting their first placements.
- Any other reasonable duties as directed by the School Services Manager and Head of Therapeutic Services and Development.
Experience and skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills essential to be able to deal with a wide range of people, managing sometimes difficult conversations and defusing tension before problems arise.
- Clear and efficient verbal communications, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations in a clear, concise and professional manner, using appropriate technology.
- Good organisational ability.
- Flexible work pattern as and when necessary.
- Integrity, compassion and creativity.
- Some knowledge and understanding of primary and secondary school environment.
