Terapia Secures Funding for Whole School Approach Project
Announcing the Whole School Approach project. In November this year, our team at Terapia was extremely proud to receive the support of John Lyon’s Charity.
The project, which will provide holistic therapeutic services to the entire community of three primary and two secondary schools in the London Borough of Barnet, has now worked through a selection process, narrowing the 18 school applications received based on the needs of each school, working with the headteachers and SENDCo’s.
Each of the five selected schools will receive counselling, psychotherapy and groupwork support for its students, teachers and parents/ carers. Services include 1:1 therapy sessions, school assemblies, group programmes and training workshops, alongside drop-in advice clinics for families and network meetings.
Putting forward an application for funding to John Lyon’s Charity, our Head of School Services & Development, Pamela, was able to demonstrate the need for this service within the Borough of Barnet, surpassing the criteria required by the organisation.
Commenting on the new project, Pamela said: “We are extremely proud to have received the support of John Lyon’s Charity. The grant will enable this vital service to take place in five schools, providing access to a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy services for those in most need.”
“Students will be able to benefit from onsite therapy sessions, working to achieve improved well-being and self-confidence. We will also be able to better equip teachers, parents and carers to support children’s mental health needs and help manage challenging behaviours.”
“Schools and families will see countless benefits, including fewer behavioural difficulties in class and at home which will enhance students’ capacity to study and learn and increase positive peer relationships.”
The support received by John Lyon’s Charity, as part of its bid to distribute over £130 million to a range of organisations that seek to promote the life-chances of children and young people through education, now enables this project to take the next steps and make a difference in our local Borough.
